July 17th - Ch 8 (Reproduction) and "The Master and Your Plan"
Intro
We turn our attention now to the end of the book and to taking steps to applying this to the next school year. Summer can be a great time for learning, but everything you learn only stays in the summer, then you will have wasted it all. We will spend a considerable time looking forward to how this all applies to the college campus. If there was ever a time to really take the time to think and pray, it is now. It may also do you some good to go back and read through the book again. It is pretty short, so a chapter a week would allow you to get through it a second time.
The book end talking about reproduction. The ultimate goal of Jesus for his disciples was that his life be reproduced in them and through them into the lives of others. The fact that the group of mean he led was small made little difference. If they were adequately trained, they would produce lives which would be like theirs. It would be easy to look at our team of 6 student leaders and think, this is small. But Jesus sees the entire world through our "little' core team, because if you are adequately trained, you will produce lives like yours. The ultimate victory would come through their faithful witness to him. His gospel would conquer as they reproduced and taught their disciples to reproduce. Reproduction was our Lord's desire for the Twelve but multiplication was the ultimate end.
The real test for our ministry is not the number of people who are being reached for first-time decisions, but are those who are being reached reaching others? Note, it is required to reach people for first time decisions, but it is not the final test of the success of our ministry.
