Irreducible Minimums

The "Irreducible Minimums" outline essential qualities and characteristics that students should possess in their spiritual journey through Challenge.

These qualities shape their relationship with God, others, and the world around them, reflecting the character of Jesus and aligning their priorities with God's.
Reproducing Discipleship
Students have a vision for making disciples to the 4th generation. They have the toolbelt, pathway, and confidence to disciple a younger believer and have ideally mentored several other students. They have seen multiple spiritual generations from their life.

Dependance on God
Students know how to draw near to God and to seek Him in every area of their life. They do not merely add God or “Chrisitan living” to their schedule but filter everything through Him in order to honor Him.

Heart for God
Students have a continually deepening love for God. They do not just know about God but have a vibrant and abiding relationship with Him. Their affections are stirred up by the things of God and grieved by things not of God.

Biblical Community
Students have developed a healthy view of their relationship with other Christians that leads toward Biblical unity. They recognize the Church as the bride of Christ and maintain intergenerational relationships within the body of Christ. They understand their role in the local church and how they can contribute to the local church the rest of their lives. They are not merely consumers but participate and contribute to the Church.

Heart for Lost
Students have shown they can share not just the gospel story but also their lives with those who do not believe. They have a passion for spending significant time with non-believers. They know how to share the gospel story in at least one form and can read the Bible with non-believers. They develop a world vision that includes praying and seeking ways to reach all nations in whatever capacity God leads them.

Word of God
Students have a view of the Bible as supremely authoritative, valuable, and sufficient in their lives. They are confident and able to study the Bible on their own and apply what God has spoken in His Word. They can relate and evaluate what they hear on a daily basis with the commands, principles, and promises written in Scripture.

Prayer
Students are growing in their desire for and discipline of prayer. They pray in both a planned and spontaneous way that positions them in front of the throne of Christ. Prayer has become more than a ritual or chant in their lives and relies on scriptural prayers for themselves, their neighbors, and the nations.

Live a Spirit-Filled Life
Students first recognize they have become a Christian through the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit dwells within them at all times. Aware that they can quench the Spirit and choose to not be filled by the Spirit, they sincerely submit daily to the direction of the Spirit. They live to glorify Jesus in every area of their life as they receive the power of the Holy Spirit that enables them to be a witness for Him. They confess their known and unknown sins and present the entirety of their heart, mind, soul, and strength before God and His Word.

Stewardship
Students grow in Lordship of their time, energy, money, and possessions. They use their resources in a wise way knowing that God has graciously provided for them. They seek to multiply their resources by advancing the kingdom of God. They love giving and practice it regularly. They can develop and maintain a personal budget and calendar that reflects a life that has learned to use the things of this world without being engrossed in them.

Biblical Identity
Students have an understanding of what God says is true of them in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. They are led to repentance, acknowledging their place before God without Jesus while also accepting all they are and have in Christ. They submit all preferences and idols in their lives to the lordship of Jesus. They recognize the created design and plan of humanity as God has revealed in the Bible as a man or woman of God and rethink areas of their life that distort who God has created and called them to be.

Biblical Character
Students develop a strong moral compass that points toward Biblical ethics and living. The sum of their disposition, thoughts, intentions, desires, and actions reflect the God whose image they are created in.

Life Long Learner
Students resolve to be trainable for the rest of their lives. They recognize the need to grow and do the hard work of making daily choices to take in new knowledge and apply it in a wise and appropriate way. They learn first and foremost from the Bible, using prayer and wise counsel to discern truth and wisdom for each step of their life.

Hospitality
Students create spaces where strangers become friends. They take the initiative in welcoming and loving strangers, as well as maintaining hospitality towards those they regularly encounter. Hospitality is always given without grumbling. (1 Peter 4:9). Students view hospitality through the lens of the gospel, where their aim is not to gain from others, but to give to those without thought of repayment.. They recognize all that they have as a blessing from God and use it to bless others. They are unafraid to open their hearts and homes to others.
